This course provides a set of skills to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in a workplace environment, including the skills to provide an emergency first aid response in the event of an emergency. It is relevant for personnel who are the designated first aiders, particularly those working in manufacturing, construction, mining or any occupation involving hazardous work.

Application and Relevance
This skill set comprises four units and provides a set of skills to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of first aid in a workplace environment. It has been endorsed by industry as appropriate for people employed in occupational first aider roles.
  • Rowville
It is recommended participants have prior experience in first aid and have language and literacy skills equivalent to level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). They should also have the ability to meet the considerable physical demands of the practical skills.
Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Note that the provision of CPR must be demonstrated on the floor.
This course covers the provision and management of first aid resources, advanced first aid response, life support, management of casualties, the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

A learner is able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer for courses at Vital Skills Training provided this is in line with the RPL and Credit Transfer Policies. Students cannot credit transfer an entire course.
