Application and Relevance
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations and codes of practices in the electrotechnology workplace. It includes applying safe working practices, following workplace procedures for hazard identification and risk control. It also includes electrotechnology worker responsibilities and application for health and safety, risk management and adherence to safety practices as part of electrotechnology work functions when preparing to enter a work area.

There are no unit pre-requisites for this course. Students require physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including removing an electric shock victim from a simulated live electrical situation, work at heights, demonstrating safe manual handling techniques and identifying hazards and conducting risk assessments. Students require literacy and numeracy skills to complete an Incident Report form and risk assessments
Assessment is completed throughout the course and includes quizzes and practical assessment.

  • Relevant CRP health and safety regulations,codes and practices
  • Understanding relevant safe work method statements (SWMS)
  • Relevant emergency management procedures and instructions relating to WHS/OHS and emergency incidents
  • Regulations and standards related to electrotechnology work environments and their controls including: − asbestos − silica − hazardous gases − chemicals − confined spaces − physical and psychological hazards − safe manual handling − working at heights − working safely with electricity − Selecting appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) − Completing relevant WHS/OHS documentation.

A learner is able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer for courses at Vital Skills Training provided this is in line with the RPL and Credit Transfer Policies. Students cannot credit transfer an entire course.
